Company SP Laboratory, as integral part of Sojaprotein joint stock company, became member of Victoria Group in 2002. Since 2005 SP Laboratory went independent from Sojaprotein and continued its operations as a separate legal entity within Victoria Group which owns 93.99% equity of the Company. The company is headquartered in Becej. It currently employs 160 people.
The main activity of the company is technical testing and analysis of various types of food. Company also tests quality and health standard status of human and animal food, as well as diagnosing microbiologic content, pesticide residue, mycotoxins, heavy metals, poly-aromatic carbohydrates (PAH), poly-chloride biphenyls (PCB), vitamin content, amino acids, fat acid content, and isotopes. Apart from human and animal food, most frequently mineral waters, soil, artificial fertilizers, various raw materials and items for general use are also tested. The company is the leader in the field of technical testing and analysis, with the estimated market share of 40%.The most important investment activities realized in the previous period are the construction of new lab building in 2005, and the purchase of lab equipment (IRMS and HS/GC/MS). The plan is to invest about € 300,000 during 2010 for the purchase of new lab equipment.
‘SP Laboratorija’ is at this moment the state of the art lab in Serbia and this region of Europe. It is the only one in the Balkans to have equipment for testing stable isotopes to determine originality and geographic origin, as well as mad-cow disease detection. Recently the lab has been technologically equipped for testing for 900 pesticide residues and for determining the amount of genetically modified organisms in food. The novelty is also the ‘smoking machine’ which through more accurate determination of nicotine, tar, and carbon-dioxide levels in cigarette smoke enables more adequate and more precise control of tobacco products. This lab also has state of the art sampling equipment. By a wide network throughout Serbia, a system of fast and efficient delivery of completely preserved samples to central lab in Becej was established. Due to that fact SP Laboratorija is now accredited for lab testing for the largest world control companies: American NSF, and Swiss SGS.
