The company Luka Backa Palanka (joint-stock company), seated in Bačka Palanka, has been conducting business independently since 2002. During that period, it operated within Vodoprivredno preduzece Dunav, and since December 2006, it is part of Victoria Group business system, which owns 100% of share capital. The company currently employs 42 people. The port of Bačka Palanka is located at the 1295th kilometre of The Danube. Via the Trans-European river-channel system, The Rhine-Main-Danube Canal, it is connected to countries from the North Sea to The Black Sea. It is positioned in the industrial area of Bačka Palanka, near the main road Novi Sad - Osijek.
The main activity of the company is provisioning of port services, which includes reloading services, services using infrastructure facilities, and transport services. The available capacity allows the port to handle 500,000 tons of different cargo annually. Data on trans-shipment volume in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
The port handles reloading of the following cargo: bulk cargo, such as: grain, soybean meal, fertilizers, sugar and turnip, mustard noodles; metallurgical products packed in coils, bars, bales and bound in strips; heavy loads in the form of machinery and machine parts; packed itemized loads, empty and full containers, timber and wood products. Additional port activity is the production and sale of construction materials: gravel, sand, and concrete. Since the time the port entered the Victoria Group business system, an era of new investments has begun. Storage capacity was doubled by building plateau storage and a second vertical quay, and building of a new terminal for liquid loads and grains is also planned, as well as a third verticalquay. A significant investment that was realized was the purchase of a mobile port crane, and for the next year the construction of an embankment with the length of 250 meters is planned.
